RJD2 - Deadringer (2002)

I was reading an interesting post on The Drowning Machine about the "neverending sampling chain":

(To make it easier, below follows the extract. Credits for "Purge+audit")

Sometimes the sampling daisy-chain seems neverending...So, the wonderful CRACKED today informed me that (among other groups), Led Zeppelin famously plagiarised many of their songs... Including Stairway to freaking Heaven.(In case for some insane reason you've never heard it): Led Zeppelin, Stairway to Heaven (1971)

This is in part due to their trick of not putting any song-writing credit on their record sleeves. Its unfortunate that most self-proclaimed 70s prog-rock fans today dont bother to look up anyone OTHER than Led or Pink, or realise there was a whole ocean of similar stuff at the time.

But it does give me a chance now to show you SPIRIT, from whose track Taurus, Zeppelin stole the intro to Stairway. Spirit were a top underground group in the late 60s early 70s. To be honest I don't know a lot about their career, though I'm curious to follow them now. Taurus is lifted off their first album, Spirit, 1968. (LINK here)

Spirit - Taurus (1968)

The same track was sampled by RJD2 on his seminal hit 2002 DefJux album Deadringer, which I have no doubt EVERY beathead has heard at least one (that is if you don't own it as well, which I'm convinced most of you do).

RJD2 - Proxy (2002) (listen about the 2:30 mark)

And to follow the sample chain, the sample you're hearing throughout the song should be familiar as Steve Reich's exquisite Electric Counterpoint 1. Steve Reich - Electric Counterpoint 1 (here performed by Gaku Yamada)

As far as I can tell, RJD2 specifically sampled the Pat Metheny performance of the same piece, which isn't availble on youtube to show you, but is absolutely worth getting in its own right.

Here's part 3 of the same suite.

Now, this may be familiar to you OLD beatheads... 1990 old. Orb is one of few early 90s ambient dance groups which has actually aged pretty well.

Orb - Little Fluffy Clouds (1990)

Okay, I'm exhausted, so thats all for now."
After reading the post up, I thought it was time to expose RJD2 here. Particularly lets show RDJ2`s album debut known as Deadringer.

The kind of work I highly recommend for everyone! Another pack of high-end beats from 2002 too. Goggle it!

Katalyst - Manipulating Agent (2002)

Hi folks,

Believe it or not, I'm terribly missing this place as much as many of you might be bored when you notice the lack of update. So let's stop the stalling and go right to point!

"Katalyst (Ashley Anderson) initially recorded under the name Moonrock with fellow producer Illpickl. After 2001, As Katalyst, he formed experimental record label, Invada Records together with Portishead's Geoff Barrow, for which 2002's Manipulating Agent was the label's first release.

His later (and probably wider known release) "Whats Happening" explores a wider and more mainstream style, wheras this record is a moody DJ Shadow influenced downtempo/instrumental hiphop sound, with a keen sense for digging."
(ref.)

It's kind of funky/groovy hiphop beats with undeniable touch of Portishead`s flavor. Somebody described it like that: "add 2 parts Portishead with 1 part DJ Shadow. Shake and serve".

Hey up, guys!

I'm not coming here much often and to be sure I`m not in front of computer that much too. But good news come..

I've got some "new" stuff, clearly secondhands as you can see.

It's not the best goodies one could wish but it`s the best my surface-diggings could find and the best my pockets can afford by now and, in a broder sense, these are good clue for the few hour I've got to enjoy'em..

So give this blog a change and keep coming! maybe you find some old-new thing in the next time!

I might have some uncomplete post to be published for you to enjoy while I can`t get the time the task takes.

Sorry about the crappy picture and..
..See you!

Picks of the weekend..

I know many people out there still didn't realized what is going on.. I know there are many questions that need to be ascertained and many gaps that need to be filled to establish “market stead-state”. History tells us that many said it loud that radio would kill musicians, that movies would destroy theater arts, that digital music would put an end on CD which was once supposed to exterminate vinyl. Have any of these things really happened?

Ok, now let’s check the news! These are the gems picked this Saturday:

At first, BIRD NAM NAM’s self titled debut!

DSC03887 DSC03888 DSC03889 DSC03890 DSC03891 DSC03892 DSC03893 DSC03894

If you’ve been following this blog or checked the old posts, you might know this album. One question for the PhDs standing: Would I ever have bought it if I didn’t know it??

On the other hand, If that girl who was taking care of that “store” during lunchtime knew it too, she wouldn’t have dealt it for about only 5 dollars. Anyway, that’s what ones would call market opportunity or bargaining..

Only 5 dollars… For another amount like that I could also get a good compilation from Smashing Pumpkins. It’s called “Zero” and it seems to be a kind of bootleg but I will check that further. Some greatest SP tracks inside: “1979”, “Disarm”, “Tonight, tonight”, “Bullet with butterfly wings” amongst some others. Take a look!

DSC03895 DSC03897 DSC03898 DSC03899 DSC03901

While blind by the faith that internet will crash the music, some people can’t look to the fact that we need to think the whole thing in a different manner in which the market is REALLY fair. Primarily, it needs to be fair for the costumers who need to know what they are throwing in their shop-bags and who have to pay an affordable price.

On the other side, it needs to be fair for the artists who create music and must be rewarded by their value (sales, shows, donations and merchandise). However, the major questions seems to be involved with those between the artists and costumers who want to win from both sides.

Remember, artists and costumers will always exist.

See you, good-guys!

Chicken Lips – Echoman (2000)

Over the 00`s, the decade of the new style disco forms, I`ve read and heard lots of “disco this, disco that” but the fact was that finding a good nudisco album became a real hard task. Maybe only a handful of artists could reach the level achieved by Chicken Lips in Echoman.

I`m not a specialist on the theme but I guess the union of some of the ideas of Andy Meecham and Dean Meredith made the avenue in which many artists have been walking through during 00`s. Some would say they are pioneers of the spaced-out dub nu disco.

R-66715-1144803215

I´d say that it`s like a combo of electro-dub influences glancing disco, perhaps.. Check out the original post where i find it at The Light Of The Night. The one behind that dark red pages knows the matter, few word that say everything. Once there, check the disco and funk tags, I guess you`ll find something cool.

Tracklist:

01. Echoman Prelude (0:35)

02. Eggy's Pause Button (5:28)

Theo Parrish - First Floor (1998)

A high profile between those seeking after house`s substyle Miami…opss, Texas…i mean Washington…ok! just kidding: it`s Detroit House!

THE GUY:

“With a style similar to Moodymann's take on Detroit tech-house as a melange of distorted disco-funk and boogie, Theo Parrish originally grew up in Chicago but moved to the Motor City by the time of his late-1996 Baby Steps EP on Elevate Records, a subsidiary of 7th City. From the EP, his Chicago tribute "Lake Shore Drive" later appeared on the Kenny Dixon/Moodymann release "Inspirations of a Small Black Church," and Parrish also worked on tracks by Rick Wilhite, Dewayne Davis and Norma Jean Bell. He continued through 1997 with singles for his own Sound Signature label plus Music 15 and Filth. In late 1998, Peacefrog released two Theo Parrish LPs, both of which were issued on CD as First Floor. Also a stellar DJ, Parrish is renowned around Detroit for his sets of downtempo jazz-funk and disco.” (ref.)

& HIS WORK:

“The first thing that strikes you is the space Theo allows his grooves, "Sweet Sticky" just sits an awesome electronic riff over a bass drum that rearranges buildings, before a classic disco loop edits percussive interest into the smothering rhythm. Then the bass moves and boy, you better be ready for the effects. "Love is War With Miles" could be an "In A Silent Way" for the 002, and you just know Miles dewey Davis would be talking with Theo on a higher sphere if he was still around. "Heal Yourself and Move" carries the flame direct from Larry Heard and sets off with it, determinedly to the horizon. Reviewing an album this good is easy, but if it doesn't convey how much you need this music in your life, then we haven't made ourselves clear - you need this.” (ref)

Anyway, I guess the cover art kind of translate something about the sounds there are inside.

0012bf1a

I can`t say it`s deep house, I can`t say it`s a sort of minimal or tech, I can`t say wheter it`s downtempo or a chill shadow , I can`t it`s about jazz or gospel or soul but in a particular manner all the concepts seem meet.

Tracklist:

VA - Krem`s Kutz: A Kollection Of Hand-Picked Kutz (2010)

Hey up folks,

Most of blogs have lots of their own collections, bootlegs and mixtapes being the vast majority raw, lacking refinement (in my terribly poor opinion, as usual). Well, I won`t make anything different! Better requires time, tools and effort which I can`t buy in the store on the corner.

But I still thought it was time to deliver something alike here... And, probabilistically by chance (?!), I`ve got a reason to go for it. These dark pages have scored 2k visitors! It`s been such a fast run when I think about the first days AUDIOVISOR got lanched!

Just another poor work that takes a lil of me. I`ve made some minor cutting edits to make tracks flow better. I could`ve done it better, using some cheap tricks but (again) it would takes me time. Yet, I`m satisfied with the result! Hope you get too!

Kutz that comprise things listened over the last months, a jorney through the colours of soul/funk/brazillian/disco/house!! Kutz to enjoy alone (my case right now) or drinking with friendzzZZ, warm ups or... go ahead! take a listen and find the ocasion(s) it fits better!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hi folks!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!.. for all of you that has been visiting, commenting, emailing and whatever more during the first year of this house!! THANKS VERY MUCH for all that!

Audiovisor was quite asleep since last year..ok it`s not so much time from now but it was "almost" dead last month. I say "almost" because of YOU that come here and keep the fire on the torch making me decide to keep Audiovisor on.

I know we usually think that things here happen spontaneously like a machine making post on and on and that we hardly think there`s life behind these words. Well, I do have a real life, work, commitments, family, GF and, of course the need for vacation and resting. I hope that by looking through this other side, you may find the reasons for the lack of updates.
Sorry for the absence of new post and my usual lack of time..

Good year for all of you!
See you around, sick minds!!
Stay tunned!
