VA - Sugar Hill Club Classics (1998)

I`m not having many time and because of that there`s a lack of ideas about what to post.

So let`s continue with "beggining" plus "ways to make music"!!

I know many people will say who the prat doesn`t know Sugar Hill Gang?? Well, sad but true, I used to be one of them...

Others will say that they didn`t start anything! BUT who could imagine that in 1979 these guys would make a 14 min hip hop record??? AND that this music would hit in the whole world a genre that was not heard in other country but US?? SO, they deserve to be recognised at least as one of hip hop precussor.

Now lets talk about making music.

First of all, listen Rapper`s Delight by Sugar Hill Gang:

Now, listen to Good Times by Chic:

Well, probably you`ve got it. It`s almost th same music, isn`t it??

Yes, people call it "sampling". Why is it called like that? `cause the DJ captures a sample of the track and repeats (loops) it over and over. That`s the ways Hip Hop should always be: DJ sampling and MC`s rhyming. Unfortunately, some "modern" hip hop producers seem to have forgotten this basics and have been making bad music in my poor opinion..

So if you want to expand your hip hop knowlegde you shouldn`t look to the current hip hop scene but to the former one. And (guess what?) here comes a wonderful double-CD-old-school-Hip-Hop-set.

Just for curiosity:

Chic is a disco band from a moment in which Disco Music was clearly declining, probably they`re one of the last groups that became famous producing Disco. Famous tracks also include "We are Family" and "Le Freak".

So, here you`re getting some information about the death of Disco Era but you could check in previous posts that it`s still alive in the NuDisco scene.

See yo!!
